Chemical Peels FAQs

A chemical peel is a non-surgical aesthetic procedure in which an acidic solution is applied to the skin, breaking the bonds between old skin cells and effectively sloughing off the outermost layers of old, dead skin. This removal of dead skin cells reveals new, fresh skin, encouraging new skin cell development and boosting collagen production.
Peels improve a number of conditions including, but not limited to: wrinkles, acne, acne scarring, scarring, uneven pigment, rough and uneven skin and sunspots.
No, your experience will not be quite like Samantha in that Sex and the City episode. Clients sometimes expect to peel throughout the entire treated area, but post-treatment peeling is often similar to peeling after a tan. In some cases, exfoliation occurs on a cellular level and is not apparent to the naked eye. The exfoliation a client will experience varies depending on the peel strength and individual skin profile. AlumierMD chemical peels are light- to medium-depth, and are formulated to reduce irritation and redness.

You should not necessarily expect to peel. However, you may have light to moderate flaking in a few localized areas for 3-7 days. You may also experience residual redness which lasts in most patients for 1-12 hours.

Almost everyone! Higher caution is taken for sensitive skin types and darker skin types (Fitzpatrick scale of 4-6). Dark skin types may be required to a do a skin prep called the Prep and Enhance protocol 4-8 weeks prior to prepare their skin for their peel treatment (Glow Peel only). The Renew 30 peel does not require pretreatment.
The Fitzpatrick Skin Scale is a scientific way of classifying skin types. It breaks them down into six categories starting light and moving up to the darkest tones of skin.
